Carole A. Dorland

Carole Ann Dorland, 83, of Bolivar, Ohio, passed away at her home on Friday, January 2, 2026, after a sudden illness. Born March 28, 1942 in Dennison, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Lemoin H. “Jeep” and Mary Magdalene (Palian) Staten.

Carole grew up in the Twin City area where she was a 1960 graduate of Uhrichsville High School and had been a high school cheerleader. She will be remembered for her deep love for her family, having devoted her life to their care as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Prior to living in Bolivar, she had also made Canton her home for a number of years with her late husband, Richard “Dick” Dorland to whom she was married in 1981.

She will be deeply missed by her children, Dawn Umpleby, Gregory Umpleby, and Debbie (Mark) Beckley; son-in-law, Jeff Shannon; grandchildren, Kait (Nate) Bergert, Anthony (Melissa) Beckley, and Alex (Raelin) Beckley; great-grandchildren, Ava, Piper, A.J., and Parker; sister, Nikki (Myron) Armstrong; sisters-in-law, Cheryl Staten and Rosie Trujillo; several nieces and nephews; stepchildren, Rick Dorland and Beth (Dave) Garbrandt; and many step grandchildren and step great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Cheryl Shannon; brother, Robert Staten; and stepson, Ronnie Dorland.

Always a free spirit, Carole was a woman who enjoyed many exciting pursuits including riding her motorcycle well into her 70s, parasailing, and traveling in the American Southwest where she loved the aesthetic that inspired many of her handmade jewelry creations.

According to Carole’s wishes, cremation is planned and her family will celebrate her life privately. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions honoring her memory may be made to the Tuscarawas County Humane Society, 1432 Tall Timber Rd. N.E., New Philadelphia, OH 44663 – keeping with her love for the pet cats she had kept over the years.
