Carmella T. Caputo, 88, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2012, at Aultman Woodlawn Compassionate Care in Canton, Ohio, after a lengthy illness. Born February 17, 1924 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Nunzio and Carmella (Ginnetti) Scaffidi.

She was a lifelong member of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison where she was baptized, confirmed, and on August 10, 1946, married to Joseph R. Caputo who survives her. Carmella was also a member of the church’s Altar Society and a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in the class of 1942.

In addition to her husband, Carmella is also survived by a son, Ross Anthony Caputo of Illinois; daughters-in-law, Barbara Caputo of New Jersey and Vicki Caputo of Illinois; brother- and sister-in-law, Anthony and Phyllis Caputo of Tennessee; grandchildren, Ryan Caputo and his wife, Angie, of Minnesota, Kristin Caputo of New Jersey, Lindsay and Ashley Caputo of California, and Ross “Buster” Caputo of Arizona; great-grandchildren, Grace, Sydney, and Vincent Caputo of Minnesota; first cousins, Joe and Yula Zeno; and numerous other family members and friends, including loving caregivers Marie (Mosher) Martini, Mary Jo Ann (Scaffidi) Baumberger, Denise (Caputo) Richmond, and Goldie and Kenny Host. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Richard J. Caputo; a brother, Ross Scaffidi; brothers- and sisters-in-law, L. Adrian and Teresa (Caputo) Mosher and Charles John and Dorothy Caputo.

Following her graduation from Immaculate Conception High School on June 7, 1942, she was hired at Dennison Public Library on June 8, 1942 where she was the Assistant Librarian until December of 1947. After taking off nearly two decades during which she devoted her full attention to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, she was re-hired in February of 1966 as the Branch Librarian at the new Claymont Public Library and then promoted to Library Director of the Dennison and Uhrichsville Branches in 1970, holding the position until her retirement in April of 1990. She was a member of Public Employees Retirees, Inc. Carmella had a lifelong passion for reading and also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles, cooking, crocheting, and collecting cookbooks. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family and enjoying her grandchildren.

Services for Carmella, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 21, in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. In keeping with Carmella’s wishes, no public visitation is planned. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Claymont Public Library, 215 E. 3rd St., Uhrichsville, OH 44683.
