Carl M. Hill

Carl M. Hill, 84, of Wainwright passed away at the Hospice House in New Philadelphia on March 21, 2013 following a lengthy illness. Born on October 15, 1928 in Wainwright, Ohio he was a son of the late Harry C. and Margaret L. (Heldt) Hill.

Carl proudly served his country in combat in the United States Army in Korea from 1950 to 1952. He was a talented artist and loved sharing his paintings with friends and family. Carl operated his own television repair business; Hill TV in Wainwright and spent countless hours “tinkering” in his shop where he was well known for his ability to fix just about anything. He also had many beloved dogs through out his life that he cherished. Carl’s other joys came from gardening, tending to a menagerie of farm animals, and attending garage sales and auctions. A family man at heart, Carl treasured spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.

On April 24, 1951, Carl married the love of his life, former Doris Louise Swaldo who survives him of the home. He is also survived by his children, Karen (Duane) Herchler of Dover, Bonnie France (companion, Keith Seigler) of Wainwright, Carla (Tony) Scott of Paris, O., and John (Lori) Hill of Wainwright; grandchildren, Ben (Mandy) Garver, Jill France, Shannon, Tyson, and Cory Scott, Ryan Hill, and Bryan Herchler; a great grandson, Zachary Garver; siblings, Jeannie Page of Strasburg, and Ed (Vera) Hill of Dover; his aunt, Kate Swaldo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Fred France; a grandson, Nick France; infant granddaughters, Miranda and Nicole Hill; and siblings, Robert and Richard “Butch” Hill.

A celebration of Carl’s life, officiated by Rev. Dennis Rohn will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday March 30, 2013 in Sharon Moravian Church in New Philadelphia. Inurnment will follow in Sharon Moravian Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to honor his memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
