Candace “Candy” Armstrong Gibson, 67, of Dennison, Ohio, passed away on Thursday, December 22, 2011 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville, after a lengthy illness. Born September 17, 1944 in Dennison, she was a daughter of the late Robert Charles and M. Maxine (Albaugh) Johnston.
Candy was a graduate of Uhrichsville High School in the class of 1962 before serving her country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era, having been stationed at Norfolk,Virginia. She was a resident of Tuscarawas County for most of her life. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who cherished the time that she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and her canine companion, Trent II.
On November 1, 1986, she married John T. Gibson, Jr. who survives her at their home. She is also survived by four children, Robert Armstrong and his fiancée, Kim Sullivan, of New Philadelphia, Andi Ricer and her husband, Rick, of Uhrichsville, Jimmy Armstrong and his wife, Katrena, of Midvale, and Russell Gibson and his wife, Lindsey, of the home; five grandchildren, Brittany, Dana and Chevelle Ricer, Cameron Armstrong, and Kyle Gibson; two sisters, Bobbie McGinnis of New Philadelphia and Christina Sumpter of Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Candy’s wishes, she has been cremated without a public visitation. A memorial service and celebration of her life, officiated by Rev. Mark Unrue, will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, December 26, in Uhrichsville First Presbyterian Church. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the American Diabetes Association and the American Heart Association.
