On Sunday, February 21, 2021, at the age of 72, Byron Lee “Bud” Burdette was called safe at Home, joining his other teammates on the heavenly softball field in the sky. Bud was an avid church league softball player and coach for many years. He loved to coach and mentor others and was always uplifting and a blessing to all who knew him.
Bud spent his early years as a hard-working coal miner, then worked in the oil field for PAC drilling and retired as a school bus driver for Conotton Valley High School. His sense of humor was contagious, and you were always guaranteed to laugh when you spent time around him. He loved watching The Three Stooges and old westerns, and he knew every Elvis song. He might even break out his Elvis impersonation if you were lucky enough to see it. He was a proud, born and raised Uhrichsville “West Sider” who could keep you entertained for hours listening to his “West Side” stories!
Born December 6, 1948, Bud is the only son of the late Byron Blair “Barney” Burdette and Martha Jane (Steve) Roup. He is survived by his wife, Sheila, and his half-sister, Joanne. He was a proud dad to Jeff and Jamie, was a beloved pawpaw to Johnny, Mikayla, Jakob, and Jaxon, and great-grand pawpaw to Lucah. He was especially proud of his family’s musical abilities in leading church worship services, including his wife, Sheila, singing and playing piano, his son, Jamie, playing guitar, and his son, Jeff, playing percussion for many years uplifting and praising the Lord. He was truly a man of God.
According to Bud’s wishes, cremation is planned. Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation on Friday, March 5, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Tuscora Park Pavilion in New Philadelphia. For those who choose to send floral remembrances, delivery to the family’s home would be preferred.
