Betty Jean Tharp, 91, of Uhrichsville, passed away at her home on Thursday, January 28, 2021, after a period of declining health. Born November 23, 1929 in Dennison, she was the last surviving child of the late Clarence and Belva (Reichman) Metzger. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Alvin McKinney and Donald Tharp; sisters, Lucy Phillips, Agnes Selzer, Gladys Parrish, Doris Belknap, and Lois Ickes; brothers, Donald, William, Clarence, and Carl Metzger; and a great-great-granddaughter.
Betty devoted her life to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She will be sadly missed by her surviving family which includes her son, James (Carol) Meek of Uhrichsville; daughters, Sheila Fisher of Uhrichsville who had been her dedicated caregiver and companion for the past several years and Galynn (Robert) Studer of Elgin, South Carollina; grandchildren, Jamie Meek, Shawn (Sharon) Meek, Crystal Corrigan, Amber Turney, Shawnda (John) Weekley, and Tara (David) Hickey; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She also dearly loved her many feline companions over the years. Betty was a former member of the Uhrichsville Eagles Ladies’ Auxiliary.
According to Betty’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation or service. She will be interred in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia with her late husband, Donald Tharp. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663.
