Betty Lee Miller
1943 - 2021
On July 16, 2021, our incredible mother, Betty L. Miller, went home to her Mansion Over The Hilltop (favorite hymn) to once again sit on a porch swing with her loving parents.
With her passing, Mom delegated certain family responsibilities and traditions to her two kids, Scott D. Miller and Molly A. Miller-Kopp. Together, they will coordinate their father’s, James D. Miller, marathon races and look after him. Molly and her husband, David Kopp II, will now host the elegant holiday family meals, use the vintage tablecloth, and serve mom’s homemade noodles on the “do not break” fine china. Casual cookouts that feature homemade ice cream will be carried on by Scott and his wife Jennifer.
Mom requested us to teach her granddaughters, Katie (Andy) Zimmerman, Brittany Miller, and her great-granddaughter, Gwyneth Zimmerman, the simple pleasures of having chocolate candy at the ready, savoring exactly nine pickles on a chicken sandwich, mastering the ring toss at the county fair, writing with a fountain pen, keeping a fancy handkerchief in your purse, searching for mushrooms in the woods, and enjoying a pitcher of margaritas.
After a trailblazing and successful business career in banking, Mom filled her retirement years with travel, family, and fun. She enjoyed watching Dad cross many marathon finish lines, flying with Scott, traveling overseas with Molly, cheering at her grandchildren’s athletic events, and caring for her parents, Bill & Grayce Lee, during their golden years.
For many years, Mom, Molly, Katie, Brittany, along with dear friends, Brenda Johnson and Mary Lou Comignaghi, indulged in the luxuries of The Spa at the Hotel Hershey. Her pinnacle of pampering was when she became a Hershey Spa Club Member. We will forever remember our “chocolate spa diva” adding handfuls of candy kisses into the pockets of her coveted chocolate colored robe and giggling in the quiet room.
Mom loved to visit her favorite beaches in Virginia, Hawaii, Texas, and Florida. While there, her lifelong high school girlfriends would often join her in many bucket list experiences. Her adventures included zip-lining through a rain forest, horseback riding on the beach, attending concerts of favorite performers, participating in archeological digs, and appearing on The Antiques Roadshow!
Mom was a gardener and enjoyed landscaping with Dad. Their home in Grandview Heights, Ohio was awarded community garden and landscape awards. Her “Blooms by Betty” venture began when she planted flowers for neighbors and local businesses. Dressed in her signature shades of blue, she was seen in church on Sunday, at her treasured antique stores, and riding her stylish bicycle around town.
Mom taught us that life is not about what you gain but what you give to others. Her kindness was an evident act of grace. Mom’s kitchen table displayed countless thank you cards expressing appreciation for her time, talents, and contributions or for just being an inspiring woman and a loving friend to so many.
In addition to her immediate family, Mom will also be lovingly remembered by her brother, William (Cindy) Lee II; dearest sister-in-law, Judy (Dean) Ackerman; many nieces and nephews;
special cousins and their extended families, Vivian Mackall, Pat (Don) Foit, and Danny Lee; and special friends, Brenda Johnson, Barbie Garner, Gloria Boles, and Milda Still.
We are deeply grateful for the personalized home and support services provided by Briana Kistler & Kim McGarr of Compassionate Care Hospice.
At the forever age of “39", she lived a full and happy life. Mom was our motivator, our inspiration, and our absolute number one fan. We are honored to celebrate her and encourage you to join her family in singing and playing the hymns.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, Ohio. A service conducted by Pastor Larry Malterer will be held at Grace United Methodist Church in Uhrichsville, Ohio at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 22, with graveside services at Union Cemetery in Uhrichsville. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, Mom would be overjoyed to witness you planting flowers in your garden or sharing an ice cream cone with someone special in your life. Charitable donations may be made to Grace Lutheran Church in Thornville, Ohio, Grace United Methodist Church in Uhrichsville, Ohio, and Compassionate Care Hospice in Akron, Ohio.
