Betty J. Galantine, 87, of Uhrichsville, O., passed away on Friday, March 20, 2009 at Amberwood Manor in New Philadelphia, O., following a period of declining health.

Born September 16, 1921 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late James Melvin and Mary Magdalene (Abbuhl) Staneart.

Betty was a lifelong resident of the Twin City area who had attended Uhrichsville High School. She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Church for many years, having volunteered at the church’s clothing store, done maintenance at the church facilities and worked at many of the annual parish festivals.

Having married Anthony J. “Tony” Galantine on November 9, 1941, Betty devoted her life to her family as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who loved caring for her family and her home. She especially enjoyed working in her yard and flower gardens, and was a gifted seamstress. During World War II, she also did her part on the homefront as a “Rosie Riveter”.

On October 7, 1995, Betty lost her beloved Tony. She was also preceded in death by a son, J. Alan Galantine; a daughter, Ann Galantine; a grandson, Timothy “Paul” Van Scyoc; and a brother, Melvin Staneart.

Betty and Tony are survived by a son, Gene Galantine and his wife, Gail, of Leesburg, Fla.; two daughters, Mrs. William (Toni) Probert and Mrs. Carl (Christina) Van Scyoc, both of Uhrichsville; nine grandchildren, Bill Probert and his wife, Cheryl, of Gnadenhutten, Dino Probert and his wife, Michele, of Baltic, Melissa Probert of Dover, Anjanette Johns of Uhrichsville, Gene Galantine and his wife, Kristy, of Dellroy, John Galantine of Jacksonville, Fla., Mrs. Robert (Cherie) Nugent of Chestertown, Md., Mrs. Michael (Sandra) Dupal of Uhrichsville, Nikkie Van Scyoc of Uhrichsville, and Holly Van Scyoc-Thompson of Lisbon, O.; and sixteen great grandchildren, Ashley, Johnetta, Alexis, Cara, Jenni, Emily, Hunter, Alissa, R.C., Isabella, Anthony, Abigail, David, Alicia, Tony and Samantha.

Betty is survived by her sister-in-law, Gilda Galantine of Dennison, as well.

Services for Betty, officiated by Msgr. George J. Schlegel, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 23, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Those wishing to honor Betty’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Immaculate Conception Church Memorial Book Fund.
