Betty Jane Ellwood, 96, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away at the Ohio’s Hospice Truman House in New Philadelphia, Ohio on Sunday, June 21, 2026, after a long and full life. Born March 25, 1930 in Warwick Twp., near Uhrichsville, she was a daughter of the late William Clyde and Harriet (née Wilcoxen) Myers.
Betty was a lifelong Twin City resident and graduate of Uhrichsville High School in 1948. On September 30, 1951, she married Arthur Charles “Ace” Ellwood with whom she was blessed with three sons, Randy (Debbie) Ellwood, Rick Ellwood, and Jerry (Susie) Ellwood, all of whom survive her. Betty and Ace enjoyed nearly 62 years of loving marriage until his passing on May 25, 2013. They are also survived by their grandchildren, Chad (Nikki) Ellwood, Beth Ellwood, Lisa (Andrew) Smith, Todd (Elizabeth) Ellwood, Lori (Scott) Warner, Chip (Matthew) Ellwood, Justin Ellwood, Lachelle (Troy) Malone, and Vanessa Ellwood; great-grandchildren, Emilee Ellwood, Clara Ellwood, Evanna Smith, Isaac Smith, Lucas Smith, Jackson Warner, Paige Warner, Archer Ellwood, and Aiden Ellwood; sister-in-law, Sarah Wilson; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorwin Myers, Harold Myers, and Eva Eckhardt.
After many years of staying home with her family while her children were young, Betty began her 22-year career as a teller at First National Bank of Dennison. She retired in 1995, allowing her to travel with Ace on many happy trips to Surf City, North Carolina where she enjoyed spending time at the beach – collecting seashells and sharks’ teeth. She continued going to Surf City after his passing, eventually visiting there for over 30 years. Closer to home, Betty loved spending time with her many friends at the Westchester Senior Center.
Pastor Garry Marlatt will officiate a 1:00 p.m. funeral on Friday, June 26, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, Ohio where her family will receive callers from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, prior to the service. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Ohio’s Hospice Foundation, 716 Commercial Ave. S.W., New Philadelphia, OH 44663. Betty’s family is deeply grateful for the outstanding care provided to her by all of the staff at the Truman House over her last days.
