Bettie A. Murphy

Bettie A. Murphy, 87, of Dennison, passed away at Aultman Hospital in Canton on Sunday, March 13, 2016. Born Elizabeth Ann Moore on November 5, 1928 in Wheeling, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Jefferson and Mildred Ann (Rose) Moore.

A resident of Dennison since 1941, she was a 1946 graduate of Dennison High School and a member of the former Grant Street United Methodist Church in Dennison. Over her long career, she worked for a number of local businesses before retiring from the Tuscarawas County Auditor’s office in 1994.

On December 5, 1948, she married Wayne Bryan Murphy who preceded her in death on January 2, 1967. They are survived by daughters, Kim (Jack) Whitmire and Linn (Jeff) Mahaffey; grandchildren, Angel (Brian) Miller, Alissa (Larry) Enos, Arielle (Tyler) Reichman, Bryanna Baker, Brennan Baker, an d Bryan Mahaffey; great-grandchildren, Evan, Everett and Garrett Miller, Kyle and Kody Enos, Kipton and Kinley Reichman, and Maycee and Makenna Lewis; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Michael Lee Murphy, and sister, Kathryn Lou Starr.

Services, officiated by Pastor Mick Foster, will be held at 11am on Thursday, March 17, 2016 in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow at Hartwood Cemetery near Newcomerstown. Visitation will be 5-8pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
