Berttie L. Fernatt, 75, of Uhrichsville, passed away at her home on Monday, December 15, 2014, after a lengthy illness. Born May 15, 1939 in Meadowbridge, West Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Myrl and Mildred (Parker) Ennis.

On August 10, 1957, Berttie married Billy Lee Fernatt with whom she enjoyed 43 years of marriage until his passing on January 15, 2001. They are survived by a daughter, Rose “Peaches” (companion, Mark Butler) Fernatt of Uhrichsville; son, Michael Fernatt of Cocoa, Florida; former daughter-in-law, Melissa Smart; grandchildren: Michael (Jonalee) Fernatt, Angela (Timothy) Cunningham, Jessie (Sarah) Nichols, Felicia (Ronnie) Johnson, Montana Fernatt, and Levi Fernatt; and great-grandchildren: Savannah, Wyatt, Braden, Adeline, Jackson, Jaiden, Gavin, Miracle, Mallory, Nateley, Isabella, Cash, and Ahliviah. Berttie is also survived by her sisters, Betty Cecil and Rosie (Steve) Peasley; many nieces and nephews; and her caring aide, Kristin Butler. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Debra Sue Plumbly; great-grandson, Zachary; brother, Houston Ennis; and sister, Bertha Adkins.

Berttie was a lifelong resident of the Twin City area who had worked at Handy & Harmon for many years before being employed by Marlite until her retirement. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed by her family.

In keeping with Berttie’s wishes, she has been cremated without a public visitation. A private family service is planned to honor her memory. Memorial contributions may be made to Community Hospice and to any charity that benefits veterans.
