Barry Lynn Walker, Sr., 69, of Gnadenhutten, passed away at his home on Monday, May 15, 2017. Born May 29, 1947 in Dennison, he was a son of the late Howard Marion “Bud” and Evelyn Marie (Fisher) Walker.
Barry was a 1965 graduate of Tuscarawas High School before proudly serving his country in the U.S. Army, including a year in Vietnam. Upon his return home, he began his 22 year career as an engineer with the railroad until his retirement in the late 80s. He was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association, was active in Journey Through Faith, and was a past assistant treasurer and trustee for the Tuscarawas County Genealogical Society.
On December 23, 1966, Barry married the former Christy Jean Baker with whom he celebrated 50 years of loving marriage this winter. She survives him along with their sons, Barry (Holly) Walker, Jr., Bob (Jan) Walker, and Bryon (Tracy) Walker; 11 grandchildren, Christina (Andre) Servais, Jeffrey (Ashley) Walker, Sara (T.J.) Johnson, Brennen Walker, Dylan Walker, Tyler Walker, Jamie Wade, Hunter McGuire, Kaleb Walker, Solomon Walker, and Micaiah Walker; and 3 great-grandchildren. Barry is also survived by his brother, Lanny (Denise) Walker; sister, Jody (Philip) Meyers; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Rick and Melissa Baker and Charlie and Kathy Baker; and several nieces and nephews.
Pastor Seth Filburn will officiate an 11am funeral on Friday, May 19, in Gnadenhutten United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8pm on Thursday at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Journey Through Faith or Tuscarawas County Genealogical Library.
