Barbara E. Rosenberry

Barbara E. Rosenberry, 76, of Massillon, Ohio, passed away at her home while surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, May 12, 2013 after a ten month illness. Born August 31, 1936 in Bellaire, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late John W. and Edna (Elliott) Yonley.

A resident of Massillon since 1957, Barbara grew up in Dennison, Ohio and was a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1954. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Kent State University in 1972 and began her 23 year career as a teacher for Massillon City Schools. She spent many of those years teaching 1st and 2nd grades at Franklin Elementary in Massillon until her retirement in 1996. Barbara also earned her Masters Degree from Ashland College. She was a member of the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio and the Stark County Retired Teachers Association. Barbara was a longtime, active member of St. Timothy’s Episcopal of Massillon where she was a member of the Episcopal Church Women, the Altar Guild and the Diet Club of which she was the founder. She was also a member of the Massillon Women’s Club and had been a volunteer at Affinity Medical Center (Massillon Community Hospital).

Barbara was the loving wife of Morris R. “Ike” Rosenberry to whom she was married on April 15, 1955 and who survives her at their home; the devoted mother of their three children, John R. Rosenberry of Wooster, Laura A. (Brian) Volk of Canton and Daniel T. Rosenberry of San Francisco, California; and the doting grandmother of Katie Rosenberry of Columbus and Elizabeth and Lindsey Volk of Canton. She is also survived by her brother, Robert Yonley of Uhrichsville; brother-in-law, John Gold of Ocala, Florida; sisters-in-law, Judy Yonley of Tuscarawas and Blanche Yonley of Fly, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Anna Gold; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Gene Patrick; and two brothers, Harold and Harry Yonley.

Services for Barbara, officiated by the Rev. Henry G. Harris, will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 16, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow in Ridgecrest Memory Garden in Dover. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
