Barbara E. Rice

February 21, 1929 — February 14, 2023

Barbara Ellen Rice, 93, of Medina, Ohio, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at Hospice of Western Reserve Medina, after a sudden decline in health. Born February 21, 1929 in Warwick Twp., Tuscarawas Co., Ohio, she was the last surviving daughter of the late Steven and Rose Emma (Mahalkey) Stucin.

Barbara was a 1946 graduate of Dennison High School and a resident of Tuscarawas County for much of her life before spending the last four years living with her daughter. She enjoyed a long career in the administration of Tusco Display in Gnadenhutten until her retirement. She will be fondly remembered by all who knew her for her sweet disposition –always pleasant with everyone she met and never ruffled by any situation. She was also an epic shopper in her younger days and could shop all day long non-stop. Barbara loved traveling with her husband, Dick, especially enjoying the grand scenery of the American West. She also treasured the time that she spent visiting with family and friends.

She will be most deeply missed by her family which includes her daughter, Cynthia J. Hynes and her fiancé, Thomas McKenna; brother, James Stucin and his wife, Marlene; her numerous nieces and nephews; her longtime friends, Marsha Ripley and Marilyn McKenna who were like family to her; her “grand-kitties”; and a host of friends and neighbors who were dear to her. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Vernon Rice who died on September 26, 1996 just a month after the anniversary of their August 26, 1967 wedding; her sisters, Camilla “Millie” Bridgeman, Rose Boyer, Alma Luznar, Mary Luznar, and Marjorie Wenger; and brothers, Anthony, Frank, Albert, William, and Charles Stucin.

Pastor John Stevenson will officiate a 1:00 p.m. service on Saturday, February 25, at the R. K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison where her family will receive callers for two hours prior to her funeral. Interment will follow beside her late husband in Gnadenhutten-Clay Union Cemetery in Gnadenhutten. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Hospice of Western Reserve Medina Inpatient Hospice Unit, 5075 Windfall Rd., Medina, OH  44256, in lieu of flowers.
