Barbara S. Haney

November 8, 1945 — November 20, 2009

Barbara Haney, 64, of Uhrichsville, O., died Friday, November 20, 2009, following a period of declining health.

A daughter to the late Elmer and Gladys (James) Barcus, Barbara was born in Union Hospital at Dover, O. on November 8, 1945.

She attended New Philadelphia Schools and would later become employed as a nurse’s aide for more than twenty years, holding employment with Hennis Care Center and Park Village Retirement Center both of Dover.

On February 22, 1964, Barbara married Dean Haney, Sr., and together the couple would rear three biological children. Throughout the years, Barbara and Dean would take on the role of surrogate parents, ultimately raising and caring for a number of other children, as well.

Barbara never knew a stranger and found great joy in helping others who were less fortunate. Additionally, she enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her children and later her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of forty-five years, Barbara leaves behind a loving family which includes two daughters, Novett Jean Haney of Uhrichsville and Kimberly Haney of New Philadelphia; a son, Dean Haney, Jr. of New Philadelphia; a special niece, Darlene Apadaca; and two sisters, Rita Gibson of Gnadenhutten and Thea Kimrey of Hawaii.

Ten grandchildren, Shane Harrop, Alicia Harper, Brock Espenschied, Brian Haney, Mark Haney, Sheena Haney, Klarissa Haney, Amber Milligan, April Milligan and Travis Milligan, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and close friends complete the family.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by a great grandson, McCade Harper.

A private family service, officiated by Rev. Chad Durfee, was held. Interment will be in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Barbara’s family in care of the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home to help defray the cost of her final expenses.
