Barbara A. Watkins

March 27, 1937 — May 12, 2016

Barbara Arlene Watkins, 79, of Uhrichsville, passed away on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at Community Hospice in New Philadelphia and is now unburdened by life’s daily struggles. Born March 27, 1937, she was a daughter of the late Willard Paul and Wilma Celeste (Russell) Watkins.

A 1955 graduate of Uhrichsville High School, Barbara also earned her LPN certification at age 57. In addition to being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she worked for Tuscarawas County Department of Job and Family Services for a number of years. Barbara had a lot of pain and heartache in her life; she also had GREAT fun!

Barbara is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Watson and Susan (John) Diegmiller; grandchildren, Jeffrey and David; great-grandchildren, Sasha, Austin, Sara and Siya; beloved sisters, Patricia Allison and Judy Young; and several nephews. Barbara adored her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were truly the focus and great joy of her life. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra Watson, and former spouse, George R. Watson, as well as her parents. As she drew closer to the end of her earthly life, she often talked about how much she looked forward to being reunited with her loved ones who had gone on before her.

According to Barbara’s wishes, she will be cremated without a public visitation or service. She received wonderful care from all of her caregivers at Trinity Hospital Twin City and Community Hospice, for which her family is deeply grateful. In lieu of flowers, Barbara would ask that those wishing to honor her memory would do a kind deed in remembrance and always leave a light on for her.

“We love you, Mom. Fly free! We will watch out for the railroad tracks. You relish your time for reading, painting and crafts. Call sometime and leave a light on for us .”
