Audrey E. Lindsey

September 17, 1922 — December 24, 2009

Audrey Evelyn Lindsey, 87, of Dennison, O., died Thursday, December 24, 2009 at Hennis Care Center in Dover, O., after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

Born September 17, 1922 in Pittsburgh, Pa., she was a daughter of the late George Neuman and Dwendelyn J. (Chaddock) Neuman-Helfant-Juhascik.

On June 26, 1943, Audrey was married to her high school sweetheart and lifelong love, Ross K. Lindsey, Jr., with whom she enjoyed over fifty years of marriage until his passing on February 16, 1995. Throughout her married life, Audrey was more than wife, mother and homemaker as she also helped in countless capacities at her husband’s family business, the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, where they had resided for many years.

Audrey and Ross are survived by two sons, R. Kells Lindsey, III and his wife, Peggy, of Livingston, Tx. and Timothy C. Lindsey of Dennison. She was a devoted and loving mother who supported her children through the many activities of their youth, including serving as Den Mother while they were in Cub Scouts and helping their troops as they progressed through Boy Scouts.

Audrey was also a wonderful grandmother to her five grandchildren: Mrs. Scott (Lorrigan) Booth of Dover, Ross K. Lindsey, IV and his wife, Keri, of Dennison, Allanna Lindsey and her fiancé, Chad Rutherford, of Mingo Junction, O., Mrs. Jarod (Claire) Knoten of Greenville, N.C., and Maggie Lindsey and her fiancé, Dan Tozour, of Leland, N.C. She always had time to spend with them, especially showing infinite patience as she shared her kitchen with her young “apprentices”. Their warm memories of weekends spent in her home will stay with them throughout their lives. She is also survived by two great grandsons, Joseph Ahrens of Mingo Junction and Owen Lindsey of Dennison.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Paula Lindsey.

A resident of Dennison since the age of five, Audrey was a graduate of Dennison High School in the class of 1940 and a member of Dennison Presbyterian Church. She was an avid supporter of Twin City Hospital, having been active in the Twin City Hospital Auxiliary where she oversaw the memorial donations program for many years. Audrey had also served her community on the local election board as a pollworker for many elections.

Audrey enjoyed socializing with her many friends as a longtime member of The Junior Sorosis Club and The Review Club, and was a former member of The Altruists Club, as well. Audrey was a gracious hostess who loved to entertain whether it be for the ladies in her clubs or for her own family who were treated to her delicious home cooked meals every Sunday afternoon for decades.

Services for Audrey, officiated by Rev. Carolyn Behrendt will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 28, in her home, the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home at Dennison. Interment will follow beside her beloved husband in Evergreen Burial Park at New Philadelphia with a private family graveside service.

Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to the Twin City Hospital Auxiliary and the Twin City Hospital Foundation.
