Armond J “Casey” Casimir, 94, passed away on Thursday, October 22, 2015 in New Braunfels, Texas. Armond was born March 2, 1921 in Dennison, Ohio. He lived in Dennison his entire life until November 2012 when he moved to New Braunfels, Texas with his daughter and son-in–law, Mary Ann and Pat Behan. He is the son of the late Fiorendo and Elizabeth (Ruffini) Casimir.
Casey was a lifelong resident of Dennison and a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1939 and began his career as a bartender in New York City at the Mayflower Hotel from June 1939 to December 1942. He proudly served his country during World War II in the U.S. Coast Guard. He served aboard the Coast Guard Cutter, Storis, in the North Atlantic and was based in Greenland. He was awarded the American Area Medal, Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Area Medal with one Bronze star. He continued his service in the Coast Guard Reserve and retired as a Chief Petty Officer with 22 years of service in March, 1981.
After the War, Casey began working for the Pennsylvania Railroad as an electrician. He then worked for the Penn Central railroad and retired from Conrail in 1982. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 576 in Dennison, the American-Italian Club, and was a Veteran of Foreign Wars Life Member.
On June 1, 1946, Armond married the former Alice T. DiDonato with whom he enjoyed 68 years of marriage until her passing on October 26, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Conconi, and brothers, Reynold Casimir and Tony Casmirre. Armond is survived by a sister Rose Flanagon; sons Peter (Linda) Casimir of Spokane, Washington, Michael P. Casimir of Memphis, Tennessee, James J. Casimir of Thousand Oaks, California, and Thomas C. (Stephanie) Casimir of Baltimore, Ohio; daughter, Mary Ann (Pat) Behan of New Braunfels, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law Wilber (Rose DiDonato) Courtney of Algona, Iowa and sister-in-law, Jean (Armand) DiDonato of Uhrichsville, Ohio; and 27 nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by his family to whom he was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, great-great-grandfather and uncle.
Calling hours are 3-5pm, Sunday, November 1, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Father Tyron Tomson will celebrate the Vigil for the Deceased at 5pm at the close of calling hours. Rev. Father William A. Metzger will celebrate the funeral Mass at 10am on Monday, November 2, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dennison. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison with a military committal service. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church’s Memorial Book Fund.
