Arlie Lee King, 83, of Bowerston, passed away on Friday, September 20, 2013 at Sunnyslope Nursing Home in Bowerston after a sudden illness. Born August 29, 1930, he was a son of the late Frances Sarah King. Arlie is survived by a number of cousins, including Dorsey Strock of Bowerston to whom he was especially close, Patty and Danny Bear of Leesville, and Donnie and Yvonne Lightell of Canton.
A lifelong resident of Bowerston, Arlie was a graduate of Bowerston High School in the class of 1947 and served his community as a past village councilman and mayor in Bowerston. He worked for many years at the Scio Pottery as a foreman and was the president of the board for Harcatus. Arlie proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, having been stationed in France for 18 months. He was a member of the Free and Accepted Masons. He loved caring for his home and took great pride in his yard and garden. He was Catholic by faith and attended Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison.
Services for Arlie, officiated by Father Anthony Lonzo, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 24, in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison. Interment will follow beside his beloved mother in Bowerston’s Longview Cemetery with a military committal service. Family and friends are invited to call at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, during calling hours. Those wishing to honor Arlie’s memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Immaculate Conception Church’s Memorial Book Fund.
