Arlene M. Marteny

Arlene M. Marteny, 86, of Dennison, passed away on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Beacon Pointe Rehabilitation Center in Uhrichsville after a lengthy illness. Born April 7, 1928 in Barberton, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Charles and Florence (Cook) Fisher.

A resident of Tuscarawas County since 1990, Arlene had previously resided in Barberton. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker who had also worked as a nurses’ aide and caregiver. She loved spending time with her family (especially her great-granddaughter, Kennedy) and enjoyed playing Bingo.

On September 22, 1945, Arlene married Henry C. Marteny, Sr. with whom she enjoyed nearly 54 years of marriage until his passing on April 5, 1999. They are survived by a daughter, Sandra (Patrick) Oberholzer of Uhrichsville; a son, Franklin D. “Dan” (Lori) Marteny of Bolivar; 8 grandchildren, Sherry (Dan) Mata, Tammy Cutlip, Scott (Ashley) Oberholzer, and Melissa, Mandy, Christy, Alan and Christopher Marteny; and 13 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by sisters, Thelma Chance, Frances Watson and Jeanette Godwin, as well as many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sons, Stephen Marteny and Henry Marteny, Jr.; granddaughter, Stephanie Marteny; and sister, Lena Buchanan.

In keeping with Arlene’s wishes, a private family service is planned with interment following at Evergreen Burial Park beside her beloved husband. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable contribution are encouraged to do so to Community Hospice, in lieu of flowers.
