Arlean Murray-Martin

Arlean Murray-Martin, age 100, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at Whitehall Manor Nursing home in Columbus, Ohio. She was born June 24, 1917 in Greensburg, Louisiana to James Gilford and Mary Leah (Glover) Plowman.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Charles Murray; her second husband, Curtis Martin; sons, Charles “Chink” Murray and Edward Leroy Murray; daughter, Myrtle Densley; her sister, Georgia Sims; and her grandson, Robbie Murray.

She lived in the Dennison-Uhrichsville area for many years, during which time she worked at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church rectory for the late Father Gilbert. She converted to Catholicism in the late 1950’s and was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dennison. In the 1970s, she moved to Columbus where she became a licensed barber and worked at Lynch Barber shop before moving to Las Vegas, NV to be nearer to some of her children. She returned to Columbus in the late 1980’s where she met and married her second husband, Curtis Martin, and they moved to Bossier City, LA where she continued her barbering career. In 2007 she moved back to Dennison where she was a resident of Beacon Point Nursing home. She later moved to Columbus where she was a resident of Whitehall Manor Nursing home until her passing.

Left to cherish her memory are her five children, Shirley (John) Carter of Reynoldsburg OH, Elva (Wilson) Taylor of Bossier City, LA, Gloria (Jerry) Moss, Ambrose (Roxanne) Murray of Las Vegas, NV, and Herbert (Pat) Murray of Columbus, OH; 29 grandchildren; 67 great-grandchildren; 64 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

Visitation will be held Friday morning, Oct 20, 2017 from 8:45 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. at R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home, Inc., 26 Grant St, Dennison, OH.

Father Tyron Tomson will celebrate the funeral Mass on Friday, October 20, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church, 206 N 1st St, Dennison, OH. Interment will follow in Uhrichsville’s Union Cemetery. A light lunch will be served immediately following at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 122 Grant St., Dennison. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
