Archie E. Dalpiaz

December 1, 1916 — July 25, 2015

Archie E. Dalpiaz, 98, a 3-yr. resident of Columbus, formerly of the Twin Cities since 1917, passed away on Saturday, July 25, 2015, after a period of declining health. Born Arcangelo Emanuel Dalpiaz on December 1, 1916 in Lafferty, Ohio, son of the late Gervasio Emanuel “Jerry” and Louise M. (Bartolas) Dalpiaz, Archie was the eldest of 6 children. After his graduation from Uhrichsville High School in 1935, he worked at Evans Sewer Pipe Company for 6 years. On September 19, 1940 in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison, Archie married the former Delia Competti with whom he enjoyed 61 years of marriage until her passing on October 25, 2001.

During World War II, Archie worked for the Westinghouse Naval Ordinance Plant in Canton. In 1945, he purchased a gas station/auto maintenance/small appliance general store in Uhrichsville. In 1962, his business expanded and became known as Dalpiaz City Radio and Television Sales and Service, and he had the very first color television set in the area. Archie and Delia raised their 6 children on North Second Street in Dennison.

Archie was very involved in Immaculate Conception Church and School. He was an usher for over 35 years and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, having served as deputy grand knight and recorder. Archie was also chairman of fundraising for southern Tuscarawas County for the building of Central Catholic High School. Archie enjoyed golfing, bowling, gardening, and woodworking, as well as traveling and polka dancing with his wife.

He is survived by his sons, Ron (Mary) Dalpiaz and Tom (Chris) Dalpiaz; daughters, Carole (Mark) Hanket, Janet (Chet) Burkhart, Karen (Eric) Pacht and Mary Jane (Kim) Ashley; 16 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren with another expected; brother, Louis (Helen) Dalpiaz; many nieces and nephews; and his devoted caregiver, Dina. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Pauline White, and brothers, John, Albert and Raymond Dalpiaz.

Father Tyron Tomson will celebrate the funeral Mass at 10am on Friday, July 31, in Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison. Interment will follow beside his beloved wife in St. Mary’s cemetery near Dennison. Visitation will be 5-8pm on Thursday in the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison, during which time a 7:30pm Christian Wake Service will be held. Memorial contributions to Immaculate Conception Church and Immaculate Conception Elementary are strongly encouraged, in lieu of flowers.
