Angel M. Montes

January 6, 1949 — October 25, 2025

Uhrichsville, Ohio

Angel Manuel Montes, 76, of Uhrichsville, Ohio, passed away suddenly at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio, after suffering a fall. Born January 6, 1949 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he was a son of the late Luis Francisco Montes and Leticia Dolores (Calderon) Montes.

After his 1967 graduation from Roosevelt High School in Bronx, New York, Angel proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1969 to 1971. During that time, he was stationed first in Germany and then in Vietnam. He was a successful hair stylist who had owned his shop in Hartford, Connecticut before being the manager of a high producing salon at Walmart in Poinciana, Florida in the Kissimmee area. He retired from the career he loved so much after developing carpal tunnel syndrome, and lived for some time on Martha’s Vineyard. He had been a Twin City resident – living first in Dennison, then Uhrichsville – for the past two decades.

Angel was an avid traveler who had explored much of South America and Europe, was a great cook, and had been a devoted pet owner to his cats, Little Terror and Baby, and dogs, Diesel and Blue, whom he loved to take for walks. Most of all though, he reveled in his deep connection to his Puerto Rican heritage – especially enjoying the music, including salsa and other traditional styles. Anyone who knew Angel will also remember him for his passionate political views. He attended the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

He will be deeply missed by his surviving family which includes his brothers, Luis (Iris) Montes, Orlando (Mary) Montes, and Oscar (Brenda) Montes; nieces and nephews, Letty, Caroline, Alicia, Gabriel, Victor, Daniel, Orlando, Radames, and Leah, as well as Timothy Vasquez who had resided with Angel for the past fifteen years; and great-nieces and great-nephews, Giselle, Zion, Anton, Danielle, Lincoln, Nolan, Levi, Jasmine, Joshua, and Luke. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Humberto Montes, and nephews, Anthony.

In keeping with Angel’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public visitation, and his cremated remains will be returned to his beloved Puerto Rico. Those wishing to honor his memory may do so by making a donation to their favorite charity, in lieu of flowers.
