Alice Teresa Casimir

July 1, 1922 — October 26, 2014

Alice Teresa Casimir passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2014 in New Braunfels, Texas. Alice was born July 1, 1922 in Dennison, Ohio. She lived in Dennison her entire life until November 2012 when she moved to New Braunfels, Texas with her daughter and son-in–law, Mary Ann and Pat Behan. She is a daughter of the late Pietro DiDonato and Anna Sabatino DiDonato Tarquino. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Rose Courtney and Edith Young; brothers, Armand DiDonato and Albert DiDonato; and step-father, Pio “Chuppo” Tarquino.

On June 1, 1946, Alice married Armond J. Casimir who survives her. She is also survived by sons: Peter (Linda) Casimir of Spokane, Washington, Michael P. Casimir of Memphis, Tennessee, James J. Casimir of Thousand Oaks, California, and Thomas C. (Stephanie) Casimir of Baltimore, Ohio; daughter, Mary Ann (Pat) Behan of New Braunfels, Texas; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law: Wilber (Rose) Courtney of Algona, Iowa and Reynold (Clara) Casimir of Dennison, Ohio; sister-in-law, Jean (Armand) DiDonato of Uhrichsville, Ohio; and 27 nieces and nephews.

Alice graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in 1940. She went on to complete her RN training at St. Francis Nursing School, in Columbus, Ohio in 1943. She served on the staff at Twin City Hospital for nearly fifty years, and she retired in 1981. Many of those years, she was in charge of the Emergency Room where she set a high standard for providing services to anyone that had a medical emergency. She was highly respected by all the medical staff, law enforcement officers, and emergency medical staff that worked with her in her assigned capacity. Her service and passion for nursing continued “after hours” as she would take phone calls and make home visits to relatives, friends, and patients who had questions and concerns about their medical condition. She lived out the Nurse’s Prayer to, “Help me to overcome every temporal weakness, and strengthen me in whatever may enable me to bring joy to the lives of those I serve.”

Alice was a lifetime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dennison. She was active in The Altar Society, the choir, and the Twin City Food Pantry, and she was selected for the 2002 Catholic Woman of the Year Award for the Columbus Diocese. She was active and served as an officer in both schools that her children attended, St Mary’s and Tuscarawas Central Catholic.
Alice’s special loves of her life were her family and her flowers. She so enjoyed having her extended family gather for visits and meals at her home. She had many wonderful pictures and memories of nieces and nephews playing in the backyard and the hills around the house. She really looked forward to the grandchildren visiting for extended stays during the summer as they grew up. They all remember those special trips to Grandma Alice’s and all the homemade spaghetti they got to enjoy.

Her other love was her flowers as she was especially fond of red roses. Her home in Dennison and in Tucson, Arizona, where they wintered for several years, were always adorned and landscaped with many types and colors of flowers. Each year as the flowers around your home bud and blossom, especially red roses, pause and enjoy a moment as grandma/aunt Alice may be smiling down on the fruits of your labor.

Calling hours are 4-7pm, Friday, November 7, at the R.K. Lindsey Funeral Home in Dennison with a Christian Wake Service held at 3:30pm. Services, celebrated by Father Anthony Lonzo and Rev. Father William A. Metzger, will be held at 10am on Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Dennison. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery near Dennison. Memorial contributions may be made to Immaculate Conception Church’s Memorial Book Fund and the Twin City Christian Service Center.
