Alice Elnorah Bennett, 91, a longtime resident of Copeland Oaks in Sebring, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019, at Crandall Medical Center in Sebring. Born October 14, 1927 in Uhrichsville, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Frank Thompson Lindsey and Minnie Marie (Noble) Lindsey. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Evelyn Louise, Arthur Grant and Haldean Stewart Lindsey.
A 1945 graduate of Uhrichsville High School, Alice then attended Mt. Union College and Canton Actual Business College. She was employed by the former Bond Shoe Store from 1941-1946, then by Diebold, Inc. from 1947 to 1951. On June 3, 1951, she married John Hayward Bennett and moved with him to New York City where she was the Senior Account Clerk for Clarkstown Central School District from 1958-1968. They enjoyed over 63 years of marriage until his passing on October 11, 2014.
In retirement, John and Alice moved to the Canton area where they were members of Faith United Methodist Church. Alice was also a member of Order of Eastern Star #190 in her younger years. She and John treasured the time that they spent together, and she enjoyed assisting him in his hobby as a genealogist.
In keeping with Alice’s wishes, cremation is planned. She will be interred beside her beloved husband in Evergreen Burial Park in New Philadelphia, Ohio following a graveside service at 11 a.m. on Thursday, April 4. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Copeland Oaks Life Care Fund.
