Alexander D. "Alec" Ackerman

Dec 3, 1992 — Jul 15, 2026

Los Angeles, California

Alexander David Ackerman, “Alec” to his family and friends, passed away at the age of 33 on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Cleveland Clinic Union Hospital in Dover, Ohio, following a long and courageous battle with glioblastoma – an aggressive form of brain cancer. Born December 3, 1992 in Canton, Ohio, he was a son of William David and Amy Elizabeth (née Tice) Ackerman of Uhrichsville.

Alec was a 2011 graduate of Indian Valley High School and a Tuscarawas County resident for much of his life before moving to Los Angeles, California in July of 2022 where he has made his home since. In Los Angeles, he earned his Bachelor of Education Degree in preparation for being an elementary school teacher – a career that he dearly loved. In his spare time, he enjoyed playing Magic the Gathering, was an avid video gamer, and especially treasured the times that he could go to Disneyland with his wife and son.

On July 23, 2022, Alec married Bonnie Wong who survives him at their home, along with their son, Eben Ackerman. He is also survived by his parents, Bill and Amy; younger brother and best friend, Gabriel Ackerman; aunts and uncles, Signa and Keith Eitelgeorge, Dale and Jerry Prysi, and Curtis Tice; and a number of cousins. He was deeply loved and cared for by his in-laws, Chung and Lai Wong, as well. Alec will be remembered as a loving husband, father, son, and brother who will be deeply mourned by all who knew and loved him.

Alec was preceded in death by an infant brother, Joseph England Ackerman; his maternal grandparents, Albert and Signa Tice; and his paternal grandparents, Willard and Rose Ackerman.

In keeping with Alec’s wishes, cremation is planned without a public service. His family will celebrate his life privately. Memorial donations may be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation, P.O. Box 62066, Durham, NC 27715, in lieu of flowers.
