Albert Carl Lunemann, 96, of Scio, Ohio, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2026, at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio, following a short illness. He was born in Akron, Ohio on March 11, 1930 to Herbert Jacob and Margaret Belle (née Miller) Lunemann. Big brother, Herbert Jr., was thrilled.
In 1937, the family moved to The Farm in Scio where they cut and milled lumber off the land to build their home. Albert attended Scio schools and was a 1947 graduate of Scio High School. He then attended The Ohio State University and became an agricultural teacher before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force and serving 4 years of active duty and in the Reserves until the late 1960s.
On October 6, 1956, Albert married his love, the former Rosemary Agnes Yeater, with whom he enjoyed 64 years of loving marriage until her passing on October 9, 2020. Albert taught 4 years in St. Vincent, Ohio and then another 4 years at Mt. Vernon, Ohio. In 1964, they packed up their 4 kids (Paul, Mary Beth, Anna, and Jim) and moved to East Lansing, Michigan where Albert achieved his Master’s Degree in Biology at Michigan State University.
After sending dozens of resumes, he was hired by Detroit Country Day School in Beverly Hills, Michigan. The family moved to Oak Park, Michigan and were blessed with a 5th child, Vincent Jay! Albert taught at DCDS from 1965 to 1992 and then was a substitute teacher for another 17 years. In 2010, they sold the house and moved to The Farm. Albert was honored to be inducted into the DCDS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2025.
Albert and his wife were very community and church oriented. Albert was a founder of the Our Lady of Fatima Credit Union and a Cub Scout Leader. Rosemary was the church organist for many years. While living in Scio, they were members of Immaculate Conception Church in Dennison, Ohio where Albert was a faithful member of the choir.
He loved eating at White Castle, hot sauce, and grossing out his students by eating ice cream covered in tartar sauce. Albert had a wicked sense of humor and an amazing wealth of kindness.
In addition to his parents and wife, Rosemary, he is preceded in death by his eldest son, Paul, who died in 2022, and his elder brother, Herbert Jr. Albert will be greatly missed by his surviving family which includes his children, Mary Beth (Jon) Traines, Anna Lunemann, James (Bonnie) Lunemann, and Vincent Lunemann; grandchildren, David Traines, Jacob (Chiara) Traines, Seth (Becca) Jarvis, Christina (Scott) Collins, Catrina (Michael) Moore, Michael Lunemann, Gregory (Kaitlyn) Lunemann, Katie Lunemann, Elizabeth Lunemann, and Emily (Xavier) Watson; and great-grandchildren, Liliana Traines, Travis and Nova Jarvis, Marissa and Kaelee Thomas, Aubrey Lunemann, Isaiah and Isaac Watson, and Mikey and Teo Moore; great-great-granddaughter, Blakely Vancleave; and nieces, Monica Renn and Yvonne Smith.
