Agnes Szita, 96, of New Philadelphia, O., died Thursday, January 21, 2010, at Schoenbrunn Healthcare in New Philadelphia, after a period of declining health.
Born June 21, 1913 in Holden, W. Va., she was a daughter of the late George and Anna (Suysvincz) Szita.
A resident of our area for much of her life, Agnes had been active in the New Philadelphia Moose Ladies’ Auxiliary, obtaining the College of Regents. She was also an avid bowler who belonged to the Women’s International Bowling Congress for many years. Agnes was a former member of the National Women’s Relief Corps and the V.F.W. Ladies’ Auxiliary, as well. She was Catholic by faith.
The last of her generation, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George and Louis Szita, and a sister, Margaret (Szita) Mexin. She is survived by several nephews and a number of great- and great-great- nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Agne’s wishes, a private burial has been held at Calvary Cemetery in New Philadelphia. Those wishing to honor her memory by a charitable donation are encouraged to do so to the Disabled American Veterans.
